This paper studies the sociolinguistic context and the teaching of French in some private schools in Lagos, Nigeria, a multilingual English speaking country surrounded by French speaking countries. In this perspective, our work aims to: 1. identify the languages taught in private schools in Lagos; 2. expose the teaching of French in these private schools; 3. identify the role of French in private schools in Lagos; 4. To highlight the characteristics of French spoken and taught in private schools in Lagos. However, we were able to show that learners have difficulties in mastering French as a result of the multiple languages spoken and taught in private schools in Lagos. Thus, the expressions of teachers and learners are characterized by interference, codic alternation and borrowing.
