Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In 1902, towards the end of the Second Anglo-Boer War, the Imperial Military Railway placed 35 4-10-2T tank locomotives in service, built to the specifications of the Natal Government Railways “Reid ten-wheeler”. At the end of the war, these locomotives were transferred to the Central South African Railways as CSAR Class E 4-10-2T. The CSAR converted most of them to 4-8-0 tender engines, and these became the Class 13 in 1912 with the creation of the South African Railways (SAR), later renamed Spoornet and then Transnet Freight Rail (TFR).
