Aiming at the improvement of the effluent quality of the ETEs, this book proposes the use of lagoons with floating aquatic macrophytes, from the Lemnaceae family, known as lemnas. The lemnas have a high reproduction rate and, possibly, a capacity to accumulate starch in their biomass, through a process of stress situation, in relation to their conditions. Starch obtained from the lemna could be used, for example, for ethanol production. The behavior of lemnas cultivated in domestic sewage was analyzed so that, simultaneously with the polishing of the effluent, biomass with adequate quality could be produced for some specific purpose
