In the last few decades, two major events were responsible for revolutionizing the traditional oil market around the world. On the one hand, the discovery of the pre-salt layer off the Brazilian coast, whose importance was marked by the quantity and quality of the oil and gas found beneath an extensive salt layer between the coasts of Santa Catarina and Espírito Santo. On the other hand, the improvement of Shale Gas exploration in the United States, responsible for putting the Americans back as the largest oil producer in the world, being the biggest and most important player in the oil industry today. Both events were marked by several political interferences, responsible for the success of one (Shale Gas) and the frustration of the other (Pre-salt). In this book, an analytical data survey was carried out to point out how political interference affected these two major events in the petroleum industry, also analyzing the main economic and social results that were affected by these interferences in their respective countries.
