A random act of kindness (a phrase coined by Anne Herbert) is a selfless act performed by a person or persons wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual (or even, in some cases, an animal). Either spontaneous or planned in advance, random acts of kindness are encouraged by various communities. Ark° is a not for profit movement reconnecting society through fashion. Their idea: Perform one Act of Random Kindness Ark°) every time the brand is worn. The money they make is all put back into spreading their philosophy. Ark° have even launched an underwear range (for undercover kindness!) DoRAK (Do Random Acts of Kindness) is a student group at the University of Michigan. Started in 2001, their purpose is to promote genuine acts of kindness. They expect nothing in return though they hope their deeds will inspire others to spread kindness through their lives and through the lives of others. Currently, they are also working with representatives from Michigan State, Purdue, Penn State, Wisconsin, Northeastern, and Colorado to open DoRAK chapters across the nation in an effort to create a kindness movement.
