Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. China National Ethnic Song and Dance Ensemble (variously translated as China Central Song and Dance Ensemble of Ethnic Groups or Central Nationalities Song and Dance Ensemble), based in Beijing, is the only national-level performance group representing China's ethnic minorities. It was founded in September 1952 by then-Premier Zhou Enlai. Today, with over 300 members representing 36 ethnic groups, it has performed in over 70 countries and gives over 100 performances each year. The ethnic minority groups officially recognized by the PRC reside within mainland China and Taiwan, whose minorities are called the Taiwanese aborigines. The Republic of China (ROC) in Taiwan officially recognises 13 Taiwanese aborigine groups, while the PRC classifies them all as a single ethnic minority group, the Gaoshan. Hong Kong and Macau do not use this ethnic classification system, and figures by the PRC government do not include the two territories.
